The Basics of Poker
Basically, a group of people sit around a circular table and bet on the cards that they’re dealt. A pot is created and the players have to win by making the best hand possible.
The ante is a small bet that is typically $1 or $5. Players have the option of putting in a bigger bet, or putting in the same amount as the previous bet.
The pot is the aggregate of all the bets made by all players in one round. It can be won by making the best hand possible, but it can also be won by the highest ranking poker hand.
In many games, the best possible hand is a five-card hand, or a straight. It’s possible to have a flush, a straight, a flush, a straight, ten of a kind, or even a royal flush. The lowest possible hand is a 6-4-3-2-A.
A “backdoor flush” is achieved by hitting a needed card on the turn and the river. It’s also possible to make a five-card hand with a wild card.
Poker is usually played with chips, although in some variants cash is used. Chips are easier to stack than cash and make it easier to count the winnings.
The best poker hand is a five-card hand. The best possible poker hand is a five-card hand that includes a wild card. Often, a straight is used as the showdown. A straight is a five-card hand in sequential order.
